Calabria
Calabria, a stunning region in southern Italy and exactly the “toe” of the Italian “boot”, is a narrow strip of land between the Ionian and the Tyrrhenian seas, separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina. Although this enchanting region is almost surrounded by the sea made of crystal-clear waters that break on sandy beaches and rocky cliffs, it is mainly mountainous, with high mountain ranges where it’s even possible to ski. Among the resorts that really deserve to be visited are: Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Tropea and Capo Vaticano. Tropea is a small pretty town standing on an imposing reef in the province of Vibo Valentia, in a beautiful position overlooking the gulf of St. Euphemia. Its transparent crystal-clear sea, its very fine sandy beaches and rocky cliffs are an important pole of attraction for tourists, but Tropea is also rich in artistic and architectural beauties such as the picturesque historical centre, the marvellous sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola and the majestic Norman Cathedral, all surrounded by winding hills tilled with vineyards, citrus and olive groves.
