Marche
The Marches is a beautiful region of Central Italy, situated on the eastern side of the Umbro-Marchigian Apennines, facing the Adriatic coast. This region partly hilly and partly mountainous is also rich in splendid seaside resorts equipped with all kind of tourist facilities: Pesaro, Senigallia, Civitanova Marche and San Benedetto del Tronto are only some examples. Regarding the cities of art, visitors are strongly advised not to miss Ascoli Piceno, Urbino, Ancona and Fano. Senigallia is a small pretty town situated on the Adriatic coast, a renowned holiday resort with soft sandy beaches, for this reason also known as “Velvet Beach”. This town has ancient origins but a modern structure; among the things that visitors can’t afford to miss are the Rocca Roveresca, an impressive Gothic Castle with a square base and four majestic round towers, and the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, an amazing cathedral which houses the Madonna di Senigallia, a masterpiece by Piero della Francesca.
