Sassari
Sassari, the second-largest town in Sardinia and also the one with the oldest university, rises at the foot of a limestone tableland and it’s surrounded by winding hills. The town boasts a rich artistic and cultural life, and a wealth of monuments: St. Nicholas Church, an enchanting cathedral with a spectacular baroque façade, Palazzo Ducale, a building of the XVIII century now housing a pretty town hall, Palazzo Giordano, the headquarters of the Banco di Napoli, are only some of the many treasures of Sassari. The town is also well-known for the Cavalcata Sarda, a traditional horse ride which occurs in May and has very ancient origins.
